READ THE STORY BEHIND THE ARTICLES
Gay and her daughter Jessie featured in the Mail on Sunday YOU magazine – it was pointed out to us that in the printed article, the photo of Gay and Jessie was bigger than the one of Kate Middleton and her mum!
I got this lucky break as I had met Ruth (the freelance journalist) at a Girls Night In event and we’d chatted about the perils of having size 7 feet. I offered any styling help whenever she needed it.
So Ruth had emailed to ask if I had any glamourous daughters and whether we ever shared clothes and I said yes, two and yes! One being in Australis at the time, it was my oldest daughter that did the article. We did have a great time and were so surprised that our photo was featured first and consequently in Woman own.
M & S Bank
A feature on refreshing your wardrobe on the Marks and Spencer’s Banking website came
about because a feature writer for the website googled “personal stylists local to Brighton”,
came across Style Me Confident and thought we looked fun! How amazing is that!
Woman of The Year
In 2013, Gay won “Woman in Fashion” at the Sussex Woman of the Year Awards, hosted by Johnson Press.
Gay wrote articles for Sussex Local for 4 years and it helped get her really well known in Sussex. Ladies would stop her in the street and say are you the lady from Sussex Local, I love your articles , I always turn to that page first!
The Worthing Herald
This was the very first piece of publicity that I got after I had begun SMC in May 2005.
I remember asking and asking the press to come down , and they did.
The story behind this article was the saga to get the chaise longue into town. My car had broken and I didn’t know anyone local who had an estate/ hatch back that was willing to transport a red velvet chaise longue. Then I’d had an idea – a taxi! While I was waiting for the taxi firm to call back ( and confirm – they didn’t !) a new client called for information. I said can I call you back I’m having a trauma right now and briefly explained. 10 mins later she called back and offered her estate car services – she didn’t even know me! So that’s how the chaise longue got to the high street and I’ll be forever grateful to the lovely Christine, who’s still a client 10 years later!
Style Me Confident Signature Photo
This photo took age s to get together as I had to ask all the shops for a bag to represent them. I hadn’t bargained about the ‘shoplifting’ aspect of taking empty bags, so after the shoot I had to return all the empty bags! Didn’t think I looked that dishonest!
The photo take was due to be on the front page of the Worthing sentimental to launch the new fashion, health and beauty section with Paul Holden as editor and myself contributing. Well, I was set in the front page but hours before it was to go to print the tons of wooden planks landed on the south coast beaches including Worthing and so I was usurped by planks !!! 2008
